Major Field Portion — Philosophy (3 hrs.):

Discuss the “state of the field” of Critical Theory today. What is its relevant philosophical/theoretical background? Outline what this background is, using 4 major works from your reading list. Be sure to describe and explain their implications for your sense of this background. If possible, also note some of their strengths and/or weaknesses with respect to your project.

American Studies Portion (90min.):

Considering your readings from 501/502, as well as your reading list, briefly describe the evolution of American Studies since its inception and delineate what you consider the be the most urgent task of the field today. Conclude by demonstrating how your work takes up that task, and in what ways you see your work advancing the field.

​Supporting Field Portion — Literature (2 hrs.):

Using the literary works of two prominent authors of your choice, discuss how literature can be analyzed as a cultural source. In other words, how can the themes and methodologies of American studies or critical theory illuminate meaning in literature?

Anoche fui a la tienda, al supermercado. Compre mucho comida para comer estas proximas semanas. Compre mures, y nueces, lechuga y tomates y aderezo. Tambien compre pollo y ciabatta, arroz y queso. Compre comida congelada y helado para el congelador. De la panaderia compre galletas y empanadillas dulces. Tuve pollo con pasta de arroz para mi almuerzo hoy. Voy a terminar eso esta noche. Olvide comprar bolsas de te de la tienda. Pienso que tengo algun te aqui pero solo un poco. Ahora tengo comida para muchas dias.
